FOR THE LOVE OF TENNIS

The Raleigh Racquet Club has been serving up Raleigh's finest tennis for over 50 years!

Humble Beginnings

Raleigh Racquet Club was established on September 11, 1968 with the goal of becoming the finest tennis and swim club in North Carolina. Founding members recall the club’s humble beginnings—before incorporation—when the tennis center was located at the backyard court of Dr. Hubert Royster. Royster Stadium as it was called in the early days. From 1968 through 1972, membership increased from 30 to 450 families. From the start, it was evident the club would shatter membership expectations regularly.

The Complete History of RRC

Growing Stronger

We broke ground in September of 1968 and opened our first six courts and pro shop by November. Jim Emmons was our sole employee. Three years later—just days after our 2000-seat stadium court was completed—we hosted the 1971 NC State Championships.

National Recognition

Since that time, our center court has welcomed multiple tennis legends, including John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, Monica Seles and Lindsay Davenport.  RRC has also hosted numerous professional, amateur and junior tournaments, making it one of the top tennis facilities in the Southeast. The Raleigh Racquet Club has been recognized as the: 2020 USTA North Carolina Facility of the Year, 2021 USTA National Outstanding Facility and 2023 USTA North Carolina Facility of the Year.

Bright Future

Today, RRC is not just a facility, but a way of life.  Members not only enjoy the numerous indoor and outdoor courts, pool, fitness center, and clubhouse, but also family activities, social events and tournaments.  The culture of the club is a welcoming one, unified by our collective love of tennis.

“My wife and I play tennis all over Triangle, so deciding to join RRC was a big deal since we can play tennis anywhere in the area. RRC has great court facilities that are always available and have the only indoor courts in Raleigh. We also appreciate that RRC has a great junior program and family-like community feel. ”
