Red and Orange Ball

Red Ball

Players who complete Red Ball will know forehand and backhand grips and be able to consistently hit one handed forehands and two handed backhands over the net with a solid follow through. They will be able to make topspin shots a majority of the time and make serves and overheads with a continental grip.

Level 1
-Be at least 3 years old
-Be on court for 30 minutes without a parent
-Follow basic instructions from the coach

Level 2
-Roll ball with racquet along ground in different directions
-Maintain a rolling rally with a partner

Level 3
-Dribble a tennis ball with racquet 10 times in a row
-Rally a ball against a wall 3 times in a row

Level 4
-Rally a ball against a wall 10 times in a row
-Make overhead serves over the net and in
-Keep score and play tiebreakers


Orange Ball

Players who master Orange Ball 1 know basic swings for forehand, backhand, volleys, overhead, and serves. They are able to keep the ball in play majority of the time.

Players who complete Orange Ball 2 will make topspin shots majority of the time on both forehand and backhand. They will also be able to use slices and serves with the continental grip. 

Players who master Orange Ball 3 will transition to the full 78' tennis court and will focus on using tactical skills such as consistency, accuracy, and positioning to win points. 

Level 5
-Rally a ball with a partner over the net from service line
-Aim shots left and right, deep and short

Level 6
-Rally consistently to center of court with height and depth
-Hit to open space during play
-Serve consistently into the box from both sides

Level 7
-Hit with depth and direction to different targets during rally
-Direct serve to forehand or backhand
-Recognize opponent’s weaknesses and change speed of rallies for offense and defense

Green Ball

Players will learn directional rally, basic patterns of match play, and advanced skills such as taking the ball on a rise/out-of-air, spin, and placement on serve. Players will also focus on technical skills and match play. Your child will receive attention from multiple RRC Tennis Professionals to better improve the foundations of tennis. Raleigh Racquet Club offers several options during the Summer for child to enhance their training. Our traditional options are weekday and weekend afternoons.
